Recognize the significance of candidemia related to an intravenous catheter.
Explanation:
Candidemia related to a catheter MUST be treated aggressively. The catheter has to
be removed. Anti fungal therapy must be initiated. Do not ever presume candida or Gram
negatives to be contaminants only. In the case of candida once treatment is
initiated - check blood cultures every week. Continue therapy IV until defervescence and
then should continue with oral therapy until 2 cultures are negative.
